The Car

2006

My Kingdom for a Steel Horse: Through a close contact of RumbleSoft, we were able to acquire none other than a Neon (imagine that). Though the family was sad to see their beloved vehicle go, they seem nearly as excited as we were about the prospects of letting out the car’s inner demons and giving the Rally World a trunk full of pain! The car was in excellent condition (yay, California cars) and had been pampered by its previous owner. The frame was pristine, and while the engine was in need of some elbow grease, we’d have needed to rework that anyhow. Considering what the Team has in store for the car, it was going to need some TLC regardless.

As we rolled away with the vehicle in tow, the family made a final, simple request which we’ve decided to honor. They asked that we leave the car its original color. While the idea of two guys sliding around in a purple-nurple Neon was a bit much to take at first, we have come to the realization that this car couldn’t be any other color and still be as friggin’ cool. We are couldn’t be happier on how the car has shaped up and are anxious to get it out on the road. We invision the day when the car’s previous family can stand proudly trackside as Team Way Too Fast Racing screams past in a 90-degree slide, leaving dieing and wounded cones in our wake.

I am over-due for an update on this page with the Neon’s final Rally make-up. So look out for some pics and breakdowns of what we did.

    To answer your immediate question:

We built a mounting bar out of 1/2″ Black/Galvy gas line (economical and weling friendly).

1 24″ front bar with mounting tabs welded on and a slight bend in the middle

    2 6″ pieces horizontally

2 10″ peices to mount to the inside of the Bumper,

4 90 degree elbows (and some spot welding to keep them from turning)

I split 1-1/4″ Pipe lengthwise and welded it vertically onto the front bumper and drilled holes through these and the vertical bars big enough for 1/4″ bolts. It kinda acts as a deflector bar as it is pretty beefy.
